Working on the abstract shapes for the nightmare scene
Since the earliest storyboards from back in September, there was a scene of the film that I was excited to film but wasn't sure how to tackle it. I had a strong vision in my mind of using abstract shapes and textures to evoke the panic and self-doubt of the main characters as part of a dream sequence. However, I wasn't 100% sure how I would pull it off, seeing as I have never tried to animate anything like this before.
So I kept putting the scene off and now a week before the deadline, I decided that I would work on it and get it finished as best as I could. It can be worrying to try something new and there's always that voice in the back of your head telling you to stick with what you know. But I know that if I never try new things, that I will never improve. So I dove in and managed to finish the scene in two days. It cuts between the extreme close ups of John's face and the morphing shapes of the colours.
Below is a screenshot of me working on it in Photoshop.
I am pleased with how it turned out and that I pushed myself to try something out of comfort zone. whilst it might not be perfect, I know how to improve for next time now.
