Today I designed a couple of posters for the promotional aspect of my film. I went with three designs in the end and each one is different from the other and she different areas in the film. I am pleased with how each of them look and think they are eye-catching enough to be used in the degree show. First up is this design. The watercolour blue painted background is a key element in the film and is used several times throughout to show John's fears and inner turmoil. I wanted
This morning on social media, I saw that Aaron Blaise, one of my favourite animators and designers, was holding a large sale on both his online classes and his custom photoshop brush sets. So I was able to get a set of three custom water based brush sets, several tutorials for drawing animals and one of his online masterclasses for free! I am always looking for new brushes to try and his are great. He even included some tutorials on how he best uses the brushes in his work an
Whilst working on this film, I have had to research a lot and I have learnt a lot in the process. In my storyboards from last year, I drew the flare as more of a bright, expanding firework that would take up the screen. However, when it came to actually animating and designing the scene, then I realised that that wasn't accurate at all. So this afternoon I have been learning this history of flares, flare guns and the life of Edward Wilson Very. It has certainly been interesti

I had a strong vision in my mind of using abstract shapes and textures to evoke the panic and self-doubt of the main characters as part of a dream sequence. However, I wasn't 100% sure how I would pull it off, seeing as I have never tried to animate anything like this before. So I kept putting the scene off and now a week before the
Today was an exciting day! I have finally finished filming all of the oil painted scenes for my film. Now I only need to edit them and work on some of the more digitally based scenes and I should be on my way to finishing soon. Looking at my 'to-do' list, I still have to film a couple of charcoal scenes. But they don't have as much editing to do once they're filmed so I am planning to start those next week.
Netflix hosted a variety of Animation webinars on Zoom over the past week and I attended as many as I could. These seminars were super helpful and covered a whole bunch of topics, from storyboarding, showreels, animation development and writing for animation. There was such wide range of guest speakers and it was so cool to be able to have so many amazing animators in one place online and having a discussion. As there were many other animation students from around the world a
