This evening I needed a little bit of a break from uni work so I decided to rewatch one of my all time favourite television shows, 'What we do in the shadows'. To me it is amazingly funny, witty and the perfect pick me up. I really like the array of characters and knew I had to draw them, even a bit simple. So please enjoy these quick character drawings I did of the cast. Above is a picture of the cast all together and what I used a reference for my sketches.
This week has flown by as we getting ever closer to the final deadline for this years courses. I haven't quite managed to get as much work done this week as I had planned. This is because last Friday I development an abscess between my jaw and wisdom tooth, so I had to wait until Monday until I could go to the dentist and be treated. Since then I have continued to work but as it has been quite painful, it has been difficult to concentrate on my work. I also had some side effe
Today I finally managed to grasp the method of using 1 node and 2 node cameras in After Effects. I was using this for some of the scenes where the camera moves as if the waves of the sea were whipping up the dinghy and the men inside. I struggled to prefect this for a long while but today I decided that I would sit down and finally work it out and so I did! I moved the camera in a loop and also in a kind of figure of 8 movement, so audiences are able to feel as if the waves a
Creating art is inherently cathartic for me, so when I am feeling stressed or anxious, I like to experiment with new techniques or styles. The following drawings and paintings are examples of that. I currently only have two drawings but will add to this when I have created more.
I got a lovely little gouache paint set for my birthday and have been enjoying using it since then. Here is some of the work I have done. Above is painting based off a picture I took whilst in La Paz, Bolivia back in 2017. I was looking though the pictures I took on that trip with my family and fell in love with all the traditional dresses and outfits the locals were wearing on this particular day. It was all part of a national holiday and festival, wear people from all over
Alongside my uni film work, I have been using the extra time I have during the evenings and at lunch to practice my digital drawing skills and looking at stylisation of my drawings. I still struggle to have a coherent art style that is consistent. But I think these three may work well together. I have so cool ideas planned for more work for the rest of the week. So we will see how that goes. My brother asked me draw him a new profile picture for his socials and so I did. I ha
This afternoon I was able to take all the scenes and work I have done since university shut down and put them all into my old animatic. The process was tedious and rather long but I think it was necessary as it has given me a look into the amount of unfinished scenes and the amount of scenes that I need to go back and work on if I get the time to do so. I will link the video below so please feel free to check it out if you're so inclined. Please bear in mind that it is stilli
This afternoon I have started the middle stages of planning for a particularly difficult scene. It requires several moving parts for it to work well and I think that if I can pull off what is required then it could be a really important scene for the film and really create a dynamic atmosphere. I will attach a couple of the sketches I made this afternoon. One having the background taken from one of the scenes and the other just a plain background. I think I will take elements
This week there has been a drawing trend going around social media where you ask for six suggestions of characters to draw and then you draw them. I wanted to try this because I was interested in what kind of characters would be suggested to me and also as a kind of cool down exercise before lunch. It was a really fun challenge and I'm pleased with the results. Let's quickly go through each character and explain where they are from. First up is Ash, the young fox from Wes And
Today I was able to finish quite an important scene of character expression and animation. This scene between John and Bill is important because it is meant to show the level of concern they share for both Fred and Johnny. The angle of this shot is the framed the way it is because the audience is supposed to be from the point of the view from Fred as he tries to convince them that they are close by to land and that they were saved. Whilst working on this scene, I am also work
