For my final scene of the film, I want to zoom out on the statue that Flora's name is on and show a mother and her daugther standing alongside it, then for the daugther to reach up and point at it. I think this will create a nice addition to the story I am trying to tell. But first I had to design them, these ones I did today were just simple mock ups and will proabably be refined and changed as time goes on but I am happy with how they are at the moment. As I am only showing
Today I spent more time drawing and looking at illstrative methods of storytelling than I did animating, but I think my film will benefit from this approach as there is a lot I want to include in Flora's story. So did more tests to see how a more subtle colour palette could look, I use the gouache paints again and highlighted certain areas with a brass golden pen to make them stand out further. I liked how these turned out, but I am not sure if I will explore them any further
Today I had fun testing some of the designs I created in the storyboarding process and putting them down on paper. Here are the two final results of that which I uploaded online to add in here. The 1st is a scene where flora transforms from the isle of arran which was on screen. And lastly, there was a scene I created, where its Flora zooming out from the papers she was holding in the last video.
I decided to rework the previous tests I did earlier thos week, as I have decided on how Flora will look on screen and it is more like this verison than the last on I did. I also wanted to see how a bright background would look, so thats why I included the gold background this time. I still dont like it too much but it's worth the comparsion.
I'm interested in how good the film could look with simple coloured background, rather than just the plan white that I was thinking of using. That is why I had a bit of fun testing these colours out. I went for a more pastel coloured palette with light greens and creams rather than anything too harsh as I want the main focus to be on the animation on screen rather than anything else.
Today I starting testing my concept for the morse code scene of the film. So started in photoshop, and tested some brushes and shade choices in hopes of finding the perfect combo. Here are the examples I came up with; Next, I moved the concept over to animation form and animated the morse code moving along the screen as a simple test. This is the verison with no sound that I created first. Next, I found some morse code sounds that would work with my concept and layered them o
During my research of Flora and her life I become rather interested in her 'general's' uniform and how I could incorporate it somehow into my films, which as it is now part of the voiceover script it will be. But then as I looked through pictures of Flora's entire life documented online, I thought that I should try and explore some of the other iconic outfits and dresses she wore. So I created several small simple protraits of her throughout her years as an active suffragette
Over the past month, I have been using gouache paints during my personal drawing and painting time and have really enjoyed the change to my usual watercolour set, I really like the thick and thin textures it can create and how easy it is to mix colours. So I have been experimenting today with creating protraits of Flora and testing limited colour palettes, similar to my paper tests a couple of weeks ago. These are two scans from my sketchbook, on the right I have a most reali
After coming up and designing some concepts, it's now time to start storyboarding to try and figure out how the pacing of the film will go. Today I created a very basic storyboard which I will rework in due course, to add more specific details and change some areas. I happy with this basic concept, I want to work with simple moving images and lines that look like the ink lines moving freely across the screen. I may experiment with different colours and background textures lat
Recently I have been exploring the idea of black silhouette cut outs and how they can show some of the most important parts or themes of the film that I want to potray. These include Flora, her 'General' uniform, her horse, the statue her name is on in London and where she lived. I have made examples of these which I will inset below, but I am worried that they are too boring. Here are some examples of what I was inspired by; As you can see they are very easy to read and are
